Organizing your Organization As with all young organizations, NAPHA has needed to put many general operating Practices & Procedures in place. Your Board has put in many hours over the past year working on procedures that will make NAPHA function smoother and be able to react quickly to our members’ needs and requests.
During our most recent meeting, the Board approved the following items to create a more professional working environment for NAPHA. The items will appear on the website as NAPHA Practices & Procedures and will guide the operations of your association.
We are working on Rules of Conduct for all NAPHA members which we hope will create a more harmonious atmosphere for everyone.
Your Board believes it is essential that everyone know how things work and what to expect. We are committed to having all the needed structures in place so that the organization has the guidance it needs to work smoothly.
More Member Participation In prior meetings, the Board approved three bylaw changes. The most important one was the change that will allow all owner members to be eligible for election to the Board of Directors.
At the request of the RAC, we approved the change of their name from Governing Council to Regional Advisory Council and clarified the governing body of NAPHA.
These changes are now reflected in a revision of the NAPHA bylaws entitled First Amended Bylaws of the North American Peruvian Horse Association. These are posted on the website for all members to read.
2009 U.S. National Show We are excited about our National Show this year. Gold Sponsorships are coming in and we have lined up a great class schedule with more awards and trophies than ever. The class schedule will be up very soon for members to see. Excitement is building for the Regional Champion of Champions competition as we bring together the top horses from every region for the Battle of the Best that will be staged Thursday afternoon. What a great way to start off our National Show.
Dr. Sharon LaPierre is graciously sponsoring the Western Class of the National Show. The winner of the class will receive the Charismatic Western Pleasure Horse award, which is a beautiful gold belt buckle. Click here to see the National Show rules for this class.
Our Raffle Item this year will be a Cruise for Two. Details will be posted on the website soon.
Our National Show will be webcast again this year, so be sure to tell your friends and family to watch you and your horses.

We are putting together some great auction items for even the most discriminating bidder. This year we will post the auction items on line, so all of our members will have an opportunity to bid on the great get-away vacations, tack, exotic condos and other items that are being donated by our wonderful members. Watch our website as we add items you will want to bid on.
Remember, the U.S. National Show offers exhibitors the chance to win more points than any other show in the U.S. If you are counting points for Annual High Point Awards, you will want to be at the National Show.
Ways to Help You Sell The Board has asked our Executive Director to design internet sales capabilities for our members that will let you list your horses for sale and stallion service on the NAPHA website. We are working on pricing for these services, and hope to have them available for you within the next thirty days. In this time of tough competition, every sales opportunity helps.
We will also be offering members the opportunity to advertise their horses and ranches during the webcast. Our webcast last year reached over 40,000 viewers world wide. You may want to seriously consider this advertising opportunity.
Our Finances The Board reviewed the current financials and
found that based upon our budget, we are on target with our
projections and will stay the course we are on. The figures are
very promising as we are staying within our budget projections and
our cash flow is stable. We will be meeting every month to review
the finances in particular so that we remain on target.
Change in Registration Rules International sales of Peruvian Horses are on the rise, and we have received requests from several countries to handle their registrations for them. In order to do this, the Board voted to remove the following statement from the NAPHA Registration Rules.
3. NAPHA will only register horses for breeders outside of North America who live and maintain their horses in countries which do not have a NAPHA recognized registry exclusively for Peruvian horses.
This will allow NAPHA to track horses that have been exported to other countries and track the history of their offspring.
Working for You The NAPHA Board of Directors continues to work for the betterment of our breed and to make your association an organization of which you will be proud. If there is anything you would like to see NAPHA do that will promote our members and our breed, that we are not already doing, please let us know.
